I would love to regale you with the story of my life but will restrict it to my low carb journey. It’s the 23 of April 2014 and I have just returned from a holiday in Cape Town. This was a time when I still considered myself fit. This was evident from my shaved legs to show that I was an avid cyclist. My weight had blossomed over the preceding two years but it had crept up on me slowly and I must admit that I wasn’t too concerned about it. My gut was starting to protrude quite a bit but not being aware that this was one of the first signs of metabolic syndrome in men I largely ignored...
My Journey - June Corrie "You are an Ironman".... These 4 words were my mantra for 14 months. I breathed them every second of every day. They kept me alive! There are two parts in my journey to Ironman that I want to share with you. You are not your past. LCHF/Banting is not expensive. You are not your past Crossing the finish line at Ironman South Africa 2015 was my Everest Peak. A symbol that anything is possible once you put your mind to it. By age 13, I have been continually molested for years by my brother, stepbrother and stepfather. For me sexual abuse became the norm. How I was loved and accepted. If not sexually abused, I...
Thought I’d share, ‘My Story’ …. In August 2014, I made a conscious decision to change the way I was eating … and declared publicly that I would ‘quit sugar’ & refined (white) carbohydrates!! By December 2014 I had lost about 9kgs and was starting to feel the (positive) effects of the change in my diet … most noticeably a (dramatic) increase in energy!! I’d joined a few ‘banting’ pages on face book … only follow the BBBD now & Banting for Athletes! I had been leading a ‘sedentary’ life style for some time ‘fuelled’ with Sugar & Starch!! We were preparing to head down to Southbroom for our December (2014) holiday when I noticed a message on the...
If you have nothing else but passion, you are strong enough to move mountains…. A month out from Ironman I was sweating anxiously at night, heart palpitating, kicking my own arse for entering in the first place. I was physically not prepared at all for this race and my reason for entering not at all that well thought through as it was. Thoughts of pulling out haunted me for nights!! I am incredibly passionate about triathlons and ever since 2014 when I was privileged enough to grace the podium twice at Olympic distance triathlons, the passion, desire, drive to do so more often multiplied a million times. Doing my first Ironman in 2015 confirmed to me that getting to qualify...
